Power move : lets replace coal by plastic waste!

One of the challenge of renewable energie is it is ability to generate stable base-load energie. In simlier words, offering energy immediatly when you need it. However a UK innovative project is offering a lot of hopes. It aims at transforming one of its oldest coal power station into a facility that generates power from non-recyclable materials bound for landfill. The power will come from specially designed pellets that are made of 50 per cent non-recyclable plastic waste and 50 per cent biogenic material like paper or cardboard. The pellets will serve as a direct substitute for coal, enabling the plant to feed power into the National Grid.

.

Even if we are far from removing all fossil fuels from our energy supply, this summer, renewable sources overtook fossil fuels as the main provider of electric power to UK homes for the first time during a three-month period. Nice!
